Advantages of dentist teeth whitening systems

You can whiten your teeth at your dentist's office or you may choose to do the procedure in the comfort of your home.  There are advantages to each method, but there are also disadvantages.  You must decide which procedure best fits your schedule and requirements before deciding how to whiten your teeth.

Many people look into whitening their teeth in today's world of perfection.  You can easily have your teeth whitened, but there are several different methods.  The easiest method will be the dentist's office.

Advantages of professional whitening systems:
1.  Time
A dentist can whiten your teeth much quicker than a kit that you would use at home.  A home kit generally requires weeks of effort putting trays of solution or gel in your mouth to allow the whitening to occur.  However, one visit to a dentist can accomplish the same effect in about the space of an hour.  Hence, if time is a factor and you can't spend the effort at home then the dental office may be your best choice.

For example, if you have a very busy schedule, you may not want to consider the home course.  Many people find that they don't have the time to dedicate to working on their teeth each evening for weeks or even months.  If this is your situation, you will most likely want to have your teeth professionally whitened.

2.  Results are immediate
When your dentist whitens your teeth, you have immediate results after your visit.  Thus, you can have your teeth whitened and enjoy the results today.  On the other hand, the home kit will take weeks to get the same results.  You may not even be able to see a difference the first week of your efforts.

You will want to have your teeth professionally whitened if you have an event and don't have the time slowly whiten you teeth at home.  The dentist can give you the teeth whitening you need now instead of the slow results of a home treatment kit.

3.  Even application
Your dentist can provide a very even application for your teeth because he is a trained professional.  If you have darker areas, he or she can focus on these areas to provide an even whitening of your teeth.  It can be very difficult to achieve the same results with your home kit.

Additionally, you may find that you are not applying the gel or whitening strips evenly and you may find that you are creating teeth that are whiter than others.  You have to make sure that you are very meticulous with the way you apply the solutions are you could end up with a duo tone smile.

However, with these advantages also comes one major disadvantage.  A home whitening kit is much cheaper than a professional whitening session or sessions.  You could spend $300 to $1000 dollars on a professional dentist whitening system depending on your teeth and desired results.  You could spend much less than that depending on the home whitening method you choose and the desired results.

In summary, the advantages of having a dentist whiten your teeth are that it can take only one or a few sessions to accomplish and the results are immediate.  However, you will also see the effects more pronounced in your pocketbook.  Hence, if you are short on time and have the funds you will most likely want to see your dentist for your whitening needs.  If you are long on time and short on funds, then you may want to try the home remedy course.  The choice is up to you.

Pros and cons of bleaching your teeth

Teeth whitening and bleaching is one of the most popular dental procedures today and for good reason.  There are many positive results that come with whitening your teeth.  Having a bright smile is something that every person desires to have.  However, getting your teeth bleached may not be for everyone.  It is important to know what your options are, and what choice is best for you.  Before making the decision, make sure you look into the potential affects, whether they are positive or negative.

Pros:
The most obvious and popular reason that people get their teeth bleached is for improved appearance.  Your smile is one of the first things people will notice when they meet you and having whiter teeth can make all the difference.
Having whiter teeth has proved to lessen the appearance of wrinkles and make them less noticeable.  It makes you look younger and gives you a youthful glow.
When your appearance improves, so does your confidence.  When you get your teeth bleached and see the incredible difference, it is sure to raise your confidence and give you the boost you need to advance yourself in the world, whether it be in your career or personal relationships.
Having a brighter smile gives you a friendlier appearance and promotes health and beauty.  People are more willing to talk to and have relationships with people who seem friendly and look as if they take care of themselves and their appearance.

Cons:
The first negative effect you may experience after having your teeth bleached is sore teeth and/or gums.  This is not something that happens to everyone, but it is fairly common, especially if you have sensitive teeth or gum disease to begin with.  However, for most people the pain is only short term and generally only lasts up to a few hours after the bleaching.
Perhaps the most important thing you need to consider is that the bleach will only work on teeth, not on any crowns, veneers, fillings, etc.  So be sure to realize that while your teeth will become whiter, any dental fixtures will remain their original color and you may need to be prepared to replace them to match the new shade of your teeth.
If your teeth are seriously discolored, which could be due to your lifestyle or simply genetics, bleaching may not work for you.  However, if you are serious about changing the appearance of your teeth, make bleaching your teeth your first option.  It is the least invasive and complicated procedure, as well as the most cost effective.  Just be sure to realize that it may not work for you and that your best investment may be veneers or crowns to permanently improve your teeth.

There are so many positive outcomes that come with getting a whiter and brighter smile through teeth bleaching, but for many people it may not be the best option.    Most individuals will find that simple teeth bleaching, whether it is an at-home or in-office treatment, will bring them their preferred result, but in certain cases it may end up causing more problems while bringing in more expenses.  Be sure to talk to your dentist and look at your individual situation before making any decisions to ensure you get your desired outcome.

5 tips for choosing an off the shelf teeth whitening system

Whitening your teeth is becoming the new deodorant in hygiene.  Years ago deodorant was optional and now it is a must in polite society.  Teeth whitening is quickly approaching the same popularity.  However, it is still fairly new so the best methods and techniques are not widely known.  This article will give you some tips on deciding which home whitening method you should choose.

First, you must realize that nearly without exception all dental whitening systems will provide quicker and usually better results.  The home whitening methods will be more time consuming and will need a longer period of time to achieve the same results.

Next, each treatment is holding a peroxide solution next to your teeth.  You will find that the more times you use the treatment the better or whiter your results should be.  Hence, if you want you can continue the treatment until you achieve the desired whiteness.  Be careful.  If you continue the procedure too long, you may end up with an odd looking smile because it is possible to have your teeth too white.

The following are tips to use when deciding on which off the shelf whitening system to choose:

1.  Time to apply and wear
You will need to decide when you are going to apply your whitening kit.  This will effect what type of whitening kit you want to purchase.  You basically have three types of kits to choose from.
  a. strips
  b. paint on gels
  c. tray gels
The strips can be applied and worn at any time, but in the evenings and during times you are not in public is suggested.  The paint on gels are not as noticeable, but you will not want to be eating or drinking immediately after you apply the gels.  The trays that come in the home kits are not custom made so they can also be somewhat bulky and you will not want to wear them in public.  Hence, if you decide to do your whitening during the day or while you are at work, you may want to consider using the paint on gels because they are most likely the product not to be noticed.

2.  Even application
You will want to achieve an even application for your teeth in order to get the most even whitening possible.  Trays hold the gel next to the teeth and so you will most likely get the best results if you have a good fitting tray.  The paint on gels will only get the areas you paint and you may also have areas where the painted gels wear off quicker and slower.  The strips prevent the gel from wearing off, but if you have oddly shaped teeth the strips may not reach all of the different areas of your teeth.

3.  Most powerful solution
You will want to pick the product that has the most powerful solution.  However, you may find this a little difficult to determine because most products will claim to be the most powerful.  You may want to ask your dentist or read some reviews to find the product that is the most powerful.  However, you can always reapply to achieve the whiteness you desire.

4.  Price
You often get what you pay for.  Hence, don't let price be your only concern.  However, by a little research you may find that products are very similar though they have very different prices.

5.  Comfort
You will also want to consider your comfort when deciding which method to chose.  Often trays can be a poor fit and wear in areas that are very uncomfortable.  Paints are probably the easiest while strips often have the best results.

In summary, you have many options to choose from both in methods and products.  You can find many reviews online when deciding which product to choose.  However, remember to consider your time, application method, solution effectiveness and comfort along with price.

Do off-the-shelf teeth whitening systems work?

Teeth whitening systems, both in-office and at-home, are perhaps the most in demand dental procedures and products today.  Many people prefer over-the-counter teeth whiteners both for the price and convenience.  If you are one of these people you may have wondered if bleaching your teeth at home is as effective as the in-office treatments that dentists provide.  The good news for you is yes, off-the-shelf teeth whitening systems do work!  However, it is a good idea to know what you are looking for and what to expect.

When purchasing over-the-counter teeth bleaching systems, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.  The most important thing to realize is that these are applied and used on your own with no professional supervision.  Therefore, you need to do your homework so you know which ingredients are the safest to use while still be effective.  Make sure you know how to use them; read the directions, don't just assume you know how to do it.  Next, decide if you are going to use whitening strips, or trays.  Both are just as effective, but most people find trays to be bulkier and less convenient.  Whitening strips are less visible and make it easier to talk while wearing them.  Keep in mind that if you choose to go with whitening trays, most products will be one size fits all, unless you go through your dentist.  The problem with using trays that are one size fits all is they are not unique to the individual and provide no customization.  This could lead to the bleach leaking out of the tray and onto the gums and into the throat.  This could cause serious irritation and pain that may lead to infection or other serious problems.  If your main purpose of using at-home products is to avoid the dental office, you may consider choosing a company that allows you to send in an impression of your teeth and they will send you back a customized tray.

Possibly the most widely purchased teeth whitening products are toothpastes.  Many toothpastes on the shelves today claim to make teeth brighter.  Most of these claims are true, however it does depend on how stained your teeth are, and what kind of food and products have caused them to become discolored.  In general, these toothpastes are just made to keep teeth cleaner and therefore, over time the teeth will become whiter.  However, many toothpastes are very abrasive and are made to remove the external stains.  This will make the teeth appear whiter, but don't actually change the color of your teeth.  As always, the best thing to do is consult your personal oral health professional.  Between the two of you, you will decide what is best for your individual situation.

No matter what kind of at-home whitening system you choose to use, realize that it will take more time to get your teeth to your ideal shade than most in-office treatments.  Home treatments have a lower concentration of bleaching agents than the products your dentist would use, therefore taking more time to reach the same shade of white.  The general idea is you will get the same result in one office visit as you will using your at home system for one to two weeks.

Teeth whitening can brighter your smile and have a major positive impact on your life.  It is amazingly convenient to have the power to whiten your smile at home.  If you choose to use an off-the-shelf teeth whitening system, just make sure you know what you're looking for and what will work best in your individual situation to get the best results possible!

Pros and Cons of Teeth Whitening

Everybody wants a whiter and brighter smile. Who doesn’t? And a person who longs to achieve a perfect smile is willing to spend thousands of dollars and endure the treatment for the sake of a whiter and brighter smile. The rewards are great. You become more attractive. Your gain more confidence. You develop more healthy oral hygienic habits. But there are also disadvantages like high costs and it is always wise to discuss the several advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:

To improve appearance. This is the main goal of every person who wants to get his or her teeth whitened. Always associated with beauty and healthy lifestyle, a whiter and brighter set of teeth is highly coveted in this image-conscious world. If you have whiter teeth, you tend to smile more often because you have more confidence.

Also, a whiter smile takes away the attention from any facial wrinkles or imperfection you might have and to that winning smile. And not but certainly not the least, a set of whiter teeth gives you a friendlier appearance than when your teeth were discolored or stained.

Disadvantages:

Tooth whitening procedures are very effective but there are also disadvantages like sore teeth or gums resulting from the bleaching treatment. This is only short term because when bleaching is discontinued, the sore disappears. This happens to patients who are sensitive to the bleaching chemical. Ask your dentist for any alternative bleaching solution that you are not allergic to.

Clinical studies have shown that tooth whitening is effective to more than 78 percent of all patients who have undergone a certain procedure. But for those that bleaching did not work because of a more serious discoloration condition, other options maybe more potent. A good choice, albeit more expensive, are veneers or crowns.

There are also patients who experience discomfort wearing the mouth-ray in a custom-fit tray bleaching procedure. This usually happens when the tray is not perfectly aligned with the teeth. You need to call your dentist and have him or her create adjustments to the mold so it will hold your teeth firmly and comfortably. Custom-Fit Tray Bleaching

There is an at-home teeth whitening procedure in which a tray is custom-fitted to your teeth. A teeth impression is taken from your mouth like you would when getting dentures and a custom-fit tray is created for you to take home and worn for a certain period of time. Before being worn, the tray is filled with bleaching gel. The length of time the tray is worn depends upon the gel’s potency and your whitening needs. Because this procedure is more convenient and costs less, this is the preferred procedure of most people.

Results are noticeable in a couple of days but the full effects of teeth whitening takes about 1 to 2 weeks. Custom-fir tray bleaching is more often used together with an in-office laser teeth whitening especially for people who have severe teeth discoloration.
